EG: The dog that understands that its power comes from the whole family (litter) is unlikely to compete in food.The dog who is accustomed to the
goodness and dependence of children will usually defend them as its own. Dogs are always learning and imitating, so take mind of the actions performed before it.
FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS
THE PACK: For the dog, the human family is a set of dogs;
THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE: the dog must feel we like it regardless of what they can do, never disappoint your dog.
THE EXCHANGE: The dogs obedience must always be rewarded. A conditioning will not be possible if there isn’t a significant stimulus -positive or negative- the dog learns by association, in other words, with trades;
THE ATTENTION: if the dog is alert, it will learn in depth, with efficiency and speed.
The dog tends to override its smell over the other dogs. The dogs, in the pack, need a leader who, thanks to its abilities, leads the others. Many rules are imposed by him to the group. Spraying, for example, usually rests with the leader of the pack, so when the dog urinates in the house, it probably will be fighting for the leadership, or believing that it is the leader of the "pack", family.
The pack leader, fortunately, imposes by signs and attitudes, and fight only hapens in the last case is the dispute for leadership. This happens for a very important reason: when the dogs really fight, they get hurt, and any debilitated member of the pack decreases the chances of group survival. The whole time the animals receive and pass information to each other about who is leading and who is subordinate. If they, for millennia, act like this to establish order, we will have more success if we do the same thing.
Often, we unconsciously pass to the dog the information that he is the leader of the pack, and when he acts like so we’re annoyed and upset. It's not fair not liking our dog because he acted according to the education he received from ourselves. We influence so heavily the environment and the attitudes of our dogs, that virtually everything they learn is a direct or indirect result of our way to treat them.For dogs the hierarchy is mandatory, all dogs know exactly the place they occupy within the group. Each position and attitude have meaning for each other dogs. This canine language is natural and important for them. Dogs continually test to know who is the leader. You do not need to fight to establish dominance. Leadership is provided by attitudes and positions that make up the canine language. If being the pack leader means setting rules, anyone who has a dog and wants to live in a house that does not works according to canine standards, will have every interest in establishing rules. For this we need to behave as if we were the leader of the pack.
The leader is often the most beloved member of the group. It's amazing the love and joy shown by the dogs when the leader pleases them, or when it returns from a hunt or a ride.
If the owner manages to become the leader, your dog will respect and like more and more its owner.
For the dog, our family is the pack in which he belongs. For him, we too are dogs! He will try to find out what position he holds among family members. Although they like people a lot, if your dog believes it can lead the pack, it will compete for power with the owner in numerous ways, most of them really unpleasant! Care and affection for it does not prevent disputes over hierarchy.Being the leader of the pack means protecting the other members and enforce rules for the pack to thrive. One can observe two dogs licking and showing affection not long after they have disputed the leadership in biting.
SOME TIPS
1- Always walk ahead. The leader usually walks ahead. Simply fool your dog sometimes, pretend that you’re going to one side, turn to the opposite side and get out walking, when he gets passed you again, turn to the other side, and so forth. Soon he will desist from walking ahead and will pay more attention to your movements.
2- When going through doors or gates always lead your dog. The fact is that restoring the dominance will automatically change other behaviors, such as the demarcation of territory - peeing in the house.
3- When your dog barks or somehow asks the owner to feed it, take it for walks or anything else; if the owner complies immediately, he will be obeying his orders, and the dog will interpret this as evidence that he is the group leader. The situation is reversed simply by commanding it to do something before what it is expecting. It is much important that there is no type of correction or punishment if the dog does not obey. The worst punishment for the dog is to ignore it.
4- The tone should be normal, there is no need to speak any louder.
Some dogs refuse to accept commands, forgoing even food as a way to test the leadership. Sooner or later, however, it is convinced that the owner is the leader and that its survival depends on him.
5- The more affection the dog has for the owner, the easier and more pleasurable the training will be. It will have every reason to want to obey him. A perfect leader only shows good examples to his subordinates and do not demands respect – he earns it.
6- When your dog behaves or shows submission – turning on its back or showing the back of its neck – praise it. By doing so, besides showing that the owner is the leader, will give it the prize of getting attention while leaving the owner to occupy this position.
7- A person that yells to his dog or hits it is a terrible leader, because he only gets his position by the means of threats and aggression. Dogs that receive this sort of treatment acquire severe damage, that difficult training greatly, and sometimes become very dangerous while directing their aggressiveness to someone at home that can’t overpower it. A dog that is submitted with the use of violence learns that that’s how the rules are established. That is why we cannot blame our dog for its aggressiveness when it is treated violently, because it is only following our examples. Any kind of aggression hinders the conditioning and negatively alters its pattern of behavior.
8- All signs of aggression from the dog must fail.
9- When we use the force of harmony, joy and love, we get amazing results.
10- Never hold back your dog, but its attitude, this means that as soon as he stops to make the mistake, even when provoked, it will receive all the demonstrations of love and affection, as if it has never been wrong before. The punishment has the purpose to inhibit the act and not to avenge the dog.
Learn to ignore your dog as a form of punishment. It is a great way to make your dog enhance even further your presence and a very efficient way to control its behavior.
11- Remember, when your dog does something right, praise and cherish it as a reward. If it does something wrong, just ignore it.
12- If the dog is terrified with loud noises (lightning, thunder, etc.) the owner must swell the chest and walk steadily. It means that the owner (the leader) will take care of the situation and it will settle down. If you cuddle it you will be demonstrating to the dog you’re also afraid.
13- When you do something bad to the dog, like sending it to the kennel or give it medicine, never call it, take it and do it. If you call the dog for something unpleasant the next time the dog will think twice before answering the call of its owner.
14- If you’re in a really fun game and call it to execute a command and give something boring in return, the dog will understand that it shouldn’t stop playing, and then the learning will be negative.
15- Never chain up your dog. If you have to hold it, hold it in the kennel. Restrained in a chain, the dog knows the limit it can reach. If a cat or a person passes near it will attack, it won’t wait to see if it will be attacked or not. It will act with the instinct of self-protection, thus becoming an aggressive dog.
